Can you learn to livestream when you’re not confident about the technology?
Shelley Carney Livestream Coach covers the basics of growing an online brand and business with content marketing for encore entrepreneurs.
Watch the presentation on YouTube then subscribe for more great content!Do you want to avoid becoming forgotten, isolated, and out of touch with the world? I do this teaching and I help people set up their in-home studio so they can do video conferencing, have online appointments with their doctors, and speak to the world about their wisdom and their knowledge and their love of their favorite hobby or their passion for their work. It’s important to me you don’t become out of touch with the world or feel isolated simply because you don’t have this communication device in your home.

We define encore entrepreneurs as entrepreneurs that are over the age of 50, living the second half of life. These entrepreneurs represent 50.9% of all U.S. business owners — a little more than half!
Becoming a small business owner not only allows encore entrepreneurs to be their own boss, but it also means bringing their years of experience to the table.
Often, these entrepreneurs are ready for a change from the work they’ve done most of their lives.
Along with much of the population, they want a successful home-based business so they can work the hours they choose and spend more time with family and friends.
They enjoy helping others or they may follow a passion that they have discovered.
For instance, a financial planner might pivot into helping his affluent clients leave a legacy through philanthropy. This helps both parties make a positive difference in the world.
Most encore entrepreneurs have business planning skills from a lifetime of experience.
Yet, they need an effective, timesaving marketing solution that simplifies new and ever-changing technology so they can compete with other online businesses.
Setting up a marketing framework to gain visibility and credibility for your business requires some forethought.
It is important to start with clarity and understanding of your goals. Once you have a strong image in your mind, it is easier to commit to it and do the work to make it happen.
Tackle the issues that keep you from taking steps toward achieving your goal.
Do you have fear, anxiety, confusion, or lack of knowledge about any of the tasks that lead to your vision?
Can you resolve these issues yourself, or do you need to get some experienced help to keep moving forward?
The Content Consistency Framework I recommend uses the following pieces of content to provide visibility and credibility for your brand and business.
Starting with a livestream video gives you the ability to multi-stream to several social media sites all at once.
A livestream allows you to answer questions from viewers and speak to the needs of your audience. It also gives your audience a chance to interact with you, and that builds loyalty.
Simply use the audio from your livestream video to share as a podcast and you can publish your podcast minutes after your presentation ends. This helps you reach additional audience members who look forward to your leadership.
Transcribing your video and editing the content into a blog post offers readers the opportunity to discover and learn from you.
Sending out a weekly newsletter further nurtures the relationship between you and your audience members, encouraging them to take part in your offers and purchase your products.
Quickly and easily automate your social media posts with a social media scheduling app that ingests your published content and sends out posts to your social media sites
It is not unusual to have fears or anxiety about dealing with new technology. Sometimes these fears are unfounded, but they still keep us from investigating solutions that involve using technology or unfamiliar apps.
Costs too much
We see the price of a new computer and think about the cost of several monthly subscriptions for software and it seems to add up quickly.
A new desktop computer that will run your business and all the latest apps and software for the next 5-10 years is only about $1500, including a webcam, headset with mic, and a second monitor. That’s a budget of about $300 a year for all the equipment you will need to run your entire business, aside from your cell phone.
Using AppSumo for applications can help you avoid costly subscriptions.
Considering the start-up for a brick-and-mortar business or a franchise, these costs are minimal and usually easy for encore entrepreneurs to absorb.
Too complicated
Anything new can seem complicated at first, especially technology. But, it has never been easier or more user-friendly.
There are thousands of YouTube videos, courses, books, and resources that teach you everything you need to know about operating whatever technology you need for your small business.
Can’t keep up with changes
It seems overwhelming when you think of all the social media platforms and their algorithms, and all the apps and equipment you need to run your business.
There are changes and updates all the time.
But once you get started, you’ll find the changes are small and you can easily flow along the interweb by staying informed through your favorite podcasts, newsletters, and email.
Takes too much time to learn
If it feels like there is too much to learn and it takes too long to learn it, that’s a good time to hire some help. You might need a coach, an agency, or an assistant to take over the tasks that you don’t want to do yourself.
I hear this excuse frequently from older people who have fears about using unfamiliar technology.
It may take a little longer for us to learn because we didn’t grow up having a computer in our home or a cell phone in our pocket. We feel intimidated because our kids and grandkids seem to understand it all so much better than we do.
What we grew up doing was speaking to people in person or on the telephone, so we often prefer that method of communication. That way, there is no glitchy technology to impede a productive conversation.
Many people, especially those over 55, don’t like how they look or sound on camera. Using video conferencing or livestreaming means we see ourselves on screen and recording a podcast means listening to our own voices. We sound different from the way we sound in our heads, and it can be uncomfortable until we get used to it.
Good lighting techniques and quality audio recording equipment can help us feel better about the way we look and sound.
One issue that requires patience and practice is that livestreaming can feel like too many things are going on at once. Extra buttons to push at specific times can make it difficult to focus on your presentation or interview.
You can practice until you feel more confident with this, or get a production assistant to take care of the button pushing while you focus on speaking and training.
“I’m not good with tech,” is an excuse and a story we tell ourselves when we have little to no expertise because of a lack of practice. It can also come from frustration and bad experiences we had in the past when technology was first coming into our homes and it wasn’t as user-friendly as it is today.
I remember transcribing audio files in the mid-1980s. I had been working for several hours when suddenly the power went out. I lost at least 20 pages of typed transcription because there was no auto-save back then.
Years later, I had a laptop computer that got a virus and it crashed and died. All the information on that computer was lost.
These bad experiences can make us fearful of technology, but really, everything has gotten safer and easier to use.
Encore entrepreneurs are usually enjoying a time in their lives when they have more choices because they have more discretionary income.
At this point, they can choose to learn the tech themselves or hire production services.
Choosing to do it yourself means you feel comfortable learning about the equipment and apps you’ll need for your business.
You can read a book or a manual to better understand your computer equipment and accessories. You can also watch YouTube videos that explain the best way to set up and use your equipment.
An online course is a great option for learning a framework or system that will employ the best apps to get the results you want.
Coaching can get you through the initial learning curve to jumpstart the strategies that keep you productively running your business.
A membership group can provide ongoing, peer-to-peer learning and networking that can help you get to the next level in your business.
Trial and error can be slow, costly, and frustrating, but in the end, you know you did it all yourself.
If you have adult kids around, you can ask them to help get you set up. The problem is, they rarely have the patience to teach you about the equipment and apps, so you may still be stuck when they leave.
You can stand out online as an authentic expert, connect with your target audience, and quickly create engaging content every week when you take my course, How to Create, Publish, and Distribute Content Consistently.
I’ll show you how to use the Content Consistency Framework and Schedule for Weekly Content Marketing.
You can get it at course.agkmedia.studio and when you use the Coupon Code AGKSAVER through November 18, 2022, you can get it free as my gift to you.
Rather than learning all the tech yourself, you can hire production services, (like the service AGK Media Studio offers!), to take care of the technology while you focus on what you know best.
That means you can start livestreaming and podcasting right away because you’re working with professionals who have done this for years.
You also learn what to do by doing it. But you have the trusty training wheels of somebody else doing the behind-the-scenes work until you’ve practiced it so many times you can do it on your own.
There is no fear of going it alone and messing up when all you have to do is show up and speak to the camera or interview your expert guest.
It’s time to ask yourself some more questions.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how motivated are you to
