I started my channel as a relationship coach. Then a transitions coach. Then moved into more general life coaching. Now it is about a Livestream Coach focusing on content marketing. Many of the videos were also turned into podcast episodes.
Subscribers may have joined me for any of those topics, but they might not care about my topics now.
How do I incorporate these things to tie the channel and podcast content together?
Watch the presentation on YouTube then subscribe for more delightful content.I did a reboot on Shelley Carney, Livestream Coach, to help boost the content on my YouTube channel and my podcast.
The longtime YouTube channel dilemma is that I’ve had a YouTube channel for five years, and I don’t know if I should keep doing the same content, or something different.
My YouTube channel has evolved. It started off as The Softer Side relationship coaching. Then I moved into transitions coaching because I’m superb at letting go of the old stuff, grabbing onto the new stuff, and going full force committing to it.
So why don’t I just start a new channel?
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Just make it better.
I slid into other things like marketing and livestream coaching, but it was all coaching and it was all about creating content around coaching.
I make recorded and livestream videos.
I create podcast episodes and blog posts.
But what’s the main content I want to share?
I had a lot of subscribers who joined along the way through that evolution. Some people were interested in my meditation videos.
Some were interested in the relationship advice videos.
As I evolved, they stopped watching and they don’t show up live anymore, but they’re still on my subscriber list.
What am I going to do that will appeal to my subscribers? Because right now they’re a little confused.
I want to bring my coaching and content marketing together on one channel.
Last week on our Messages and Methods show, we talked to two personal branding experts Tonya Eberhart and Michael Carr of BrandFace.
They ask their clients these top five questions to identify their personal brand and messaging:
A big part of your branding is that difference because your personal brand is the reason that people choose you over anybody else.
I had to answer those questions for myself because I’m a personal brand.
I’m Shelley Carney, Livestream Coach. That’s my personal brand. It’s about me, Shelley Carney. I am an older woman and I have live streaming in my background. I’ve been doing live streams for many years and I’m a coach. I coach on livestreaming, but I also coach on mindset, marketing, and consistent content creation.
I serve people like me who are over 50.
A lot of them are women, but not all of them.
We’re interested in trending topics and important news.
We love to be creative and learn about content marketing and how content marketing fits into our lives.
We want to either write a blog or a book or maybe do a podcast or even live streaming.
Through this content, we hope to build a like-minded community online.
Personal Development
We’re all interested in personal development. As we get older, we want to get better. We want our lives to improve.
Day Trip Travel
We want to take day trips from where we live because we now have more time and money for traveling, but we’re still frequently needed at home.
These are the people I serve best. People like me.
I help them create content consistently.
No matter what is going on in your life you can still create content.
As we get older, we end up with a lot of issues in our lives. They might be family issues, relationships, or medical problems. My family and I are experiencing a lot of medical problems this year.
I have to find ways to be consistent in my content creation, even when I’m going to a lot of doctor’s appointments or visiting my family for a month at a time.
I can serve people by sharing tips about branding and content marketing.
I offer tools and advice.
I’m always ready to talk about what tools I use for my content creation and what works best for me. That includes equipment like cameras, lighting, and audio, or software and apps that work well.
I relate examples through stories.
This week, my friend Leslie got on a Zoom call with me because she wanted to help me grow my YouTube channel. She said, can I do an experiment with you? Can I help you look at how to grow your YouTube channel?
Yes, absolutely.
As we talked and shared the screen on that Zoom call, it made me look at my channel and all the details that are a part of that. Even though I already knew what I should do, it made me really look at those things and say; I need to focus on this now.
I need to grow my YouTube channel.
I want to reach more people with my message and help more people to become content creators and content entrepreneurs.
That conversation with Leslie helped me focus on what I’m doing.
I told her; I have this channel. It’s been around a long time and I’m dragging these subscribers through all these evolutions. How can I tie it all together? How can I make it coalesce into something?
As we talked about solutions, the conversation I had last week with Tonya and Michael came to mind.
That’s when I realized I’m a personal brand!
I’ve got a lot of facets and interests.
Why can’t everything come together under my personal brand of Shelley Carney Livestream Coach?
I can also encourage other people to express their ideas and build their own personal brands.
I did family videos starting in the eighties with the big, heavy VHS video recorder that sat on my shoulder.
As video recorders got more compact, switched to digital, and became easier to use, we did a lot of videos of our kids as they were growing up. The usual going to Disneyland or holidays kind of thing.
Then in 2011, I started taking classes at the community college for film technology.
I was learning a lot more about the professional side of creating videos. We had a club that was attached to the classes that I was taking. I volunteered to run the club because the guy who was running it was moving.
The club adviser came to me and asked what videos should we create?
I came up with the idea of creating a video series. It was that mockumentary style, like The Office, where we followed two producers who were trying to create their own video series with teenage boys and their moms playing video games together.
The series would introduce each family and lead toward a final tournament. It’s an 8-part web series we put up on YouTube called Joysticks.
I learned how to run the production from auditioning actors to assembling a film crew, with audio, gaffers, grips, hair and makeup, and camera operators. I took care of craft services and acted as the producer. I also helped with securing the locations, scheduling, and speaking with the families about coming into their homes for filming.
I produced an interview-style talk show for public access television.
I’ve been creating videos in that strategic manner since 2011.
All of that experience qualifies me to help other people create their own shows.
I’ve been livestreaming since 2014.
Toby and I had our own business, Streaming New Mexico. We had several people involved in it, but it was mostly him and I, and then the other people would come in and out because they had other jobs.
We would livestream events and speakers in hotels where they were having conferences. At Expos and trade shows, we’d interview people about what they were there to learn, or if they had a booth, we would talk about their business.
At networking events, business owners would line up and I would interview them on a livestream to promote the Chamber of Commerce online.
In 2018, I started blogging because we were growing YouTube channels with our content and blogging helped to promote that.
We began podcasting back in 2019.
Toby started podcasting back in 2006, but together as a focused effort, we really got into podcasting in 2019 and we’ve been doing it ever since.
I am a course creator and a published author.
We’ve written books together. We’ve published them on Amazon. We’ve created courses. Some of them are for sale on Udemy, and others we sell privately.
I’m also a frequent podcast guest.
Lately, I’ve been on somebody else’s podcast about once a week. I’ve been guesting and reaching out to be a guest.
I have all of this in my background and that helps me teach other people how it’s done.
Because of what I do well, my subscribers and clients receive inspiration, motivation, and education from me, so they are ready to do their own content creation.
They can quickly and easily get started creating content, and they’re excited about it.
They don’t have to worry about technology or other obstacles because we do it together. They have the support to keep going.
Many people start a podcast, blog, or book, and it becomes a chore. They are missing motivation and momentum. It gets difficult, and they quit.
I teach them how to be consistent and have a lot of fun. They get to be creative and enjoy collaboration. They can make new friends and they don’t have to struggle with technology or mindset.
We all go through some self-talk mindset issues when we decide to put content out in the world. We think, I’m such an imposter, who am I to tell other people what to do or how to do it?
When we feel that imposter syndrome, it is super helpful to get coaching from somebody who has been there.
I offer that mindset coaching specifically for content creators, using my experience and my certification in coaching.
That makes life better for those who are struggling to move forward with their own content creation and distribution.
I’m unique in my training and experience in live streaming and video creation.
I’ve been creating videos and livestreams for years. I’ve gone through many iterations of apps and equipment.
We were livestreaming before it was easy.
I have training and experience in interviewing.
I produced an interview show, New Mexico Media Makers, in 2012 with Toby’s help. He taught me about interviewing people.
When we were doing those livestreamed trade shows, conferences, and networking events, I would do 20 or more interviews a day.
Acting, Improv, and Speaking
I took acting and improvisation classes from 2012 through 2015.
I have built up confidence that I can come up with something on the spot when I am speaking extemporaneously or when things go wrong. If I don’t know the answer to your question, I can feel around until I hit on something that’s helpful.
That experience of speaking while live streaming has helped me share authentically with my audience.
Screenwriting and Show Flows
I understand the beginning, middle, and end of stories. I’ve taken screenwriting classes and Toby and I have won an award for one of our screenplays.
I’ve put together hundreds of slide sets and designed many show flows to keep my viewers engaged during livestreams.
Coaching
I have coached different ways and different people. I have a certification from the Integrative Wellness Academy for life coaching.
I’m living a livecast lifestyle 2.0.
That means I’m in the second half of my life, I’m over 50. I am living a livecast lifestyle because Toby and I are always talking about or actively making videos and livecasting. It’s a part of us. It’s who we are. It’s what we do, and it makes us unique.
There are very few people our age who are livestreaming content every week.
In the second half of life, we have more time. We have more money. We have more flexibility. We have more support.
We have family and friends and relationships we’ve built up during the first half of our lives.
We can explore our creativity and share that creativity with each other.
When I’m a guest on somebody’s podcast, I want to share that with my family and friends, and they support me in that. They are happy that I’m exploring my creativity and coming up with shows, blogs, and books.
Building Relationships
This is a great time in our lives to build relationships. We can reach out to people we haven’t talked to in a while and re-energize those relationships, or we can reach out to join new groups where we have a common interest.
Our kids are grown, so we have time and space in our lives for new relationships.
We Travel and Attend Events
We went to the She Podcasts Live conference last year because it was fun and it was something that we wanted to do.
We got to travel, meet new people, attend a conference, and learn new things. It was a wonderful experience that we have more time for now that we’re living life 2.0.
Collaboration
When we went to the She Podcasts Live conference last year, we interviewed 18 different women, and through those interviews; I met some great people. One person, in particular, Jen McFarland, resonated with me. She gave me great tips and advice, and I felt she had a problem that I could help solve.
Jen wanted to get back into her podcast routine. She hadn’t worked on her podcast in a while. So, I reached out to her. I said, how about if I help you produce the podcast? I can be your partner on it. Every week we can meet online, do a live stream together, and put it out as a podcast.
We made that happen as a collaboration, and it is such a blessing in my life to have Jen to work with and learn from.
We Can Grow An Engaged Community
People living life 2.0 have more time, a desire to be creative, a desire to reach out and build relationships, collaborate, travel, and attend events. So, growing an engaged community is ideal for us.
That’s why I produce a weekly livecast on Wednesdays at four o’clock.
I talk about the content creator lifestyle.
I tell you what’s going on in my life and what I’m learning about creating content. I share tips for being consistent and collaborating with others. I answer questions about content marketing and distribution and what it takes to become a content entrepreneur.
We are bringing together all my interests and giving my YouTube channel cohesiveness.
If you joined because you like meditation videos, relationship advice, or you like to talk about content marketing, that’s okay. We will talk about all of it. Just comment during the livestream or on the video afterward, and I will talk about your ideas, questions, and suggestions.
I have a podcast, Shelley Carney Livestream Coach. It also went through that same evolution and I’m going to continue to add episodes to that podcast.
The blog will be sent back out into the world and shared as well.
I’m going to enhance my personal brand by bringing together all the different facets of myself: the coach, the live streaming, the over 50 content creator lifestyle, and all of it coming together.
Because I’m doing an additional show every week, there’s more access for my audience members. They have one more chance to show up live to interact with me.
I want to create a cohesive container for the variety of content that’s currently on my YouTube channel and podcast.
I want to reach 1000 subscribers on YouTube in the next six months so that I can monetize my channel and reach more people.
I want to grow an engaged community and consult with four new people each month. I offer a free consultation for content creators who are trying to build their own YouTube channel, podcast, and blog. I would like to help four new people every month to get valuable input through our conversation.
My friend, Leslie, wanted to talk about my YouTube channel and how to grow it. That helped me to focus and get motivated to do something about it. This consultation could be the same thing for you. Simply make an appointment, and we’ll talk. You get to focus on what it is you want to create, and that’s going to motivate you to get started.
My last goal is to increase my reach through podcasting and blogging to receive more opportunities.
I believe the more advice, help, and love we send out into the world, the more it comes back to us as opportunities.
I look forward to more opportunities for collaboration, working with people, helping others, and growing as a personal brand and business.
You have two choices when you have a long-standing YouTube channel with a variety of content and subscribers.
What We Did With A Gypsy’s Kiss
We had a YouTube channel that reached close to 7,000 subscribers, and it was all about the Forrest Fenn treasure hunt. The treasure was found, and it was time to pivot. It became Messages and Methods, then News and Views. We tried to find something that would appeal to our subscribers.
Then we asked our subscribers what do you want to see on our channel?
They told us to make videos about traveling around New Mexico, the outdoors and talking to people in these different locations.
It was time to make a clean break and start a new channel.
New Mexico Day Trips features travel videos, things to do in New Mexico, equipment tips, and our boat-buying adventure. It’s got a new brand, new content, and new subscribers. The YouTube algorithm can help us by showing our content to viewers who enjoy other videos about travel, boating, and New Mexico.
Personal Brand Umbrella
Shelley Carney Livestream Coach is now a lifestyle channel. It incorporates all the different facets of my life.
It’s a lifestyle channel that incorporates these things under my personal brand and that’s how I reconcile what is going on with my channel on YouTube.
Subscribe and join me every week for more creative lifestyle content.
Join me live on Wednesdays at 4 pm MDT to chat about the Livecast Lifestyle.
